THE RACE COURSE
NEW ROUTE ROMAOSTIA 2020
The proposal for a new route for RomaOstia was instigated from the need to insert elements of innovation – after a decade without significant changes – that harmonized with the tradition of the race that leads to the sea of Ostia on Via Cristoforo Colombo.
Since there is little room for maneuver, given the type of route bound to the 17 km straight of Cristoforo Colombo that joins EUR to the sea of Rome, it was decided to act on the final stretch, known to those that work on the race as the “biscuit” of the Lutazio Catulo waterfront, thus eliminating the sharp bend that, in the final part of the race, weighed heavily on the runners’.
THE NEW STRETCH IN THE EUR DISTRICT
To facilitate the new route the 715 meters that measured the comings and goings had been lost. To recover these meters we have thus lengthened the EUR section: coming from the small lake, we pass the roundabout with the Stele of Piazzale Marconi, we climb up a slight slope to Via della Civiltà del Lavoro. Turning back, continuing on Piazza della Civiltà del Lavoro, we pass onto Viale Beethoven, downhill to Viale Europa. From Viale Europa, then, the original route will be followed, with the exception of the transit on Viale dei Primati Sportivi, replaced by Viale della Tecnica.
Finally, the start line for the new route will be 40 meters further ahead to compensate for the new EUR route at the established distance of 21 km and 97 meters.
