AFTER GALEN RUPP ANOTHER APPRENTICE OF ALBERTO SALAZAR WILL BE THE PROTAGONIST
ON THE ROADS OF THE MOST PARTICIPATED HALF MARATHON IN ITALY
Rome, 15.02.2019 – Last year Galen Rupp was the Star from the States that made history in the Huawei RomaOstia. For the 45th edition, again from the United States, at the starting point of the most participated half marathon in Italy will arrive another star of international running, which will enrich the women’s race. On March 10th 2019 at the start there will be the twenty-seven year old Californian Jordan Melissa Hasay who, as Rupp, grew up and established under the technical guidance of Alberto Salazar in the prestigious Nike Oregon Project. Jorday Hasay undoubtedly has sport in her DNA. Her father was a basketball star while her mother Teresa, who disappeared just as she was about to make her marathon debut on the streets of Boston, was a national swimmer in England.
The blonde Californian athlete began to demonstrate her skills as early as 12 years old, winning all school competitions in which she participated. After four years of competitions defending the colors of the University of Oregon, she started to become known in 2010 as a distance runner, participating in the world junior championships in Moncton, coming fourth in the 1500 in 4.13.95 and ninth on the 3000 in her personal best of 9.15 .78. In the US trials for the Brazilian Olympics in Rio, she finished ninth in the 10,000 and thirteenth in the 5000, failing to make it to Olympic participation. She put her stamp on the half in 2017, running in Prague at 65.55, where the Kenyan Jepkosgei Joycilin set a world record at 64.52 .
In the long-distance records Hasay gained third place at the Boston Marathon in 2017, with a closing time of 2.23.00, the record for an American athlete in the debut on the distance. Six months later she closed the Chicago Marathon in 2.20.57, coming third and setting the second all-time US performance, behind Deena Kastor’s 2.19.36.
