DEFERRED ON RAISPORT FRIDAY 8 MARCH AT 12 p.m.

More than 10,000 people gathered at the starting line of the Eurospin RomaOstia Half Marathon, now in its 49th edition, organised by GSBRun in partnership with RCS Sports & Events. The event was characterised by acceptable weather conditions, no rain but plenty of wind along the entire course connecting Rome to the sea.

There was no shortage of competition at RomaOstia, which provided, as always, a hard-fought and exciting race for all.

Victory in the men’s category went to Kenyan Emmanuel Wafula, who proved all his class during a very long sprint over Ethiopian Teshager Bayelign Yezgaw, who was beaten by just one second: 1h01.10 for the winner against 1h01.11 for the runner-up. The other Kenyan Kimakal Kipsambu completed the podium with a time of 1h01.20, his new personal best.

Kenyan Mary Ngugi did not disappoint and won in 1h07.38, preceding, at the end of an incredible final progression, the very young, not yet 20-year-old Ethiopian Tekle Mulat Godu, at her debut over this distance. The latter stopped the clock at 1h07.41. Caroline Korir came third in 1h09.01.

Rebecca Lonedo (FiammeOro) was the first Italian woman to cross the finish line, eighth position for her with a time of 1h11.23.

Great satisfaction among the Organisers, the Institutions and the Partners involved.

Laura Duchi, race director of RomaOstia declared: “We are very happy and satisfied, as every year the organisation was impeccable. I would like to thank the organising committee and also my mother Rita, who is no longer with us but was definitely there in a way. We will see you on 20 October for the Rome Half Marathon”.

Alessandro Onorato, Councillor for sport, tourism, fashion and major events of Roma Capitale stated: “I am happy that this edition of RomaOstia has turned out to be the most international and the most ‘pink’ ever. Knowing that 21.5% of attendees are foreign runners (against 19.3% in 2023) and 27.17% are women (against 24.13% in 2023) is the icing on the cake of an extraordinary edition. This event that will generate positive effects on the city economy and employment, especially for the Roman coastline”.

Silvia Salis, Deputy Vice President of CONI – “These events are of utmost importance for the city of Rome and for our country because of the impact they produce. The participation of so many women is very meaningful to me. As far as I am concerned, this is my first time at RomaOstia, after a competitive career as a hammerer and my pregnancy. I am really proud to have taken part and to have finished with a time of 1h53.58”.

Once again this year, the race Village was crowded with runners from all over Italy and beyond.

A EUROSpin branded area was also included. Title Sponsor of the event and the largest discount chain in Italy. “We were pleased to start this important collaboration with one of Italy’s most important running races. Running is a sport that is accessible to everyone, popular in the best sense of the word. And so are we at Eurospin, with smart shopping for everyone, without distinction. And, as runners well know, the joys of running are always the result of commitment and passion, values that we totally share” declared Alessandro Penasa, Chairman of Eurospin Group.

On top of all this, a new exciting feature was added to the 49th edition: The Running Lab, an adidas-branded experience that gave 500 enthusiastic runners the opportunity to improve their skills thanks to accurate tools and experienced professionals.
